Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences growing in power within the city.

Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.

Audiences can anticipate learning which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
